From: Asthma News
This study investigated the effects of mycelial extract and culture
filtrate of Cordyceps sphecocephala J201 on airway
hyper-responsiveness, pulmonary immune cell infiltration, and Th2
cytokine expression in animal models of asthma. After Concanavalin
A (Con A) activation of mouse primary spleen cells, the IL-4 and
IL-13 cytokine expression were significantly decreased in the
presence of [...]

Reduced airway inflammation in CD26/DPP4-deficient F344 rats is associated with altered recruitment patterns of regulatory T cells and expression of pulmonary surfactant proteins
CD26 is highly expressed on lung epithelial cells as well as on
immune cells. Ovalbumin (OVA)-induced airway inflammation induces a
further increase of CD26 expression. CD26-deficient rat strains
exhibit blunted clinical courses in models of experimental asthma.

Histamine H4 receptor antagonism diminishes existing airway inflammation and dysfunction via modulation of Th2 cytokines
Conclusions: These data demonstrate that therapeutic H4R antagonism
can significantly ameliorate allergen induced, Th2 cytokine driven
pathologies such as lung remodeling and airway dysfunction. The
ability of H4R antagonists to affect these key manifestations of
asthma suggests their potential as novel human therapeutics.

Reducing glycosphingolipid biosynthesis in airway cells partially ameliorates disease manifestations in a mouse model of asthma
In this study, we evaluated the impact of inhibiting GSL
biosynthesis in mast cells and in the ovalbumin (OVA)-induced mouse
model of asthma using either a small molecule inhibitor or
anti-sense oligonucleotides (ASOs) directed against specific
enzymes in the GSL pathway. Lowering GSL levels in mast cells
through inhibition of glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) reduced
phosphorylation [...]
Anti-asthmatic effect of Sanguisorba officinalis L. and potential role of heme oxygenase-1 in an ovalbumin-induced murine asthma model.
Authors: Lee NH, Lee MY, Lee JA, Jung DY, Seo CS, Kim JH, Shin HK
Sanguisorba officinalis L. is known to have anti-inflammatory
properties. However, the potential effects of S. officinalis
against asthma have not been reported. In the present study, we
investigated the protective effects and underlying mechanisms of S.
officinalis [...]
What is Asthma Pathophysiology?
Asthma, which is a chronic disease in the lungs, is characterized
by: Hyper responsiveness of the airways to different stimuli like
viruses, allergens or exercise, inflammation of the airways,
reversible narrowing or obstruction of the airways. Asthma
pathophysiology indicates that inflammation in the airways is an
essential part of the pathology of asthma. This is the underlying
process which drives and maintains the process of asthmatic
inflammatory. The stimuli trigger the release of inflammatory
mediators from mast cells, eosinophils, macrophages and other cells
in the...
