From: Asthma News
Despite the prevalence of active smoking in asthmatics, data on the
short-term effect of acute mainstream tobacco smoke exposure on
airway responsiveness are very scarce. The aim of this study was to
assess the immediate effect of acute exposure to mainstream
cigarette smoke on airway reactivity to subsequent nonspecific and
allergenic challenges in healthy control [...]

Cigarette smoke is a major source of indoor pollution. Active and
secondary smoke increases the risk of developing asthma. Children
of mothers who smoke have a higher incidence of wheezing illnesses.
This effect worsens with more years of exposure. Perfume is an
indoor pollutant that can irritate already inflamed airways in
patients with allergies or asthma and should be avoided whenever
possible. Formaldehyde is a surprisingly common chemical used in
plywood and carpet adhesives, paints and even some purfumes. The
allergenic chemicals are released through offgassing.
Cigarette Smoke Causes Harmful Changes In The Lungs Even At The Lowest Levels
Casual smokers may think that smoking a few cigarettes a week is
"no big deal." But according to new research from
physician-scientists at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell
Medical Center, having an infrequent smoke, or being exposed to
secondhand smoke, may be doing more harm than people may think. The
findings may further support public smoking bans, say the

Will You Ever Be Permitted To Use An E Cigarette While At Work
Often times it is actually difficult for a tobacco smoker to
concentrate while they are working. Almost whatever job they could
do, they will think about smoking off and on through out the day.
When smokers have time by themselves, they will generally smoke
about one cigarette per hour. Naturally, this varies from smoker to

Smoking around kids exacts a high toll: studies
American kids can breathe a sigh of relief, according to a study
out today in the journal Pediatrics that finds their exposure to
second-hand smoke at home has dropped significantly since the
mid-1990s. But two other reports in the journal show that
early-life exposure could lead to behavioral and health problems
later in life. Exposure to second-hand smoke is known to cause lung
problems, asthma, ear infections and contribute to sudden infant
death syndrome (SIDS). Smoking during pregnancy has also been
linked to a host of psychological problems in children, such as
attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and antisocial
behavior. But scientists have had a hard time teasing out the
direct effects of tobacco versus lifestyle factors and mental
health in the home.
